How to open a MarketMaster® account
Apply online and you could be dealing on the same day
Before opening an investing account, it’s important to remember that the value of investments can fall as well as rise. You may get back less than you invested. If you’re unsure, we recommend you seek independent financial advice.
- Check you are eligible. To open a MarketMaster® account you must be over the age of 18 and live in the UK
- Read the terms and conditions [PDF, 1.39MB], and rates and charges: when you apply, we’ll ask you to confirm that you agree with them
- Make sure you understand the features of the MarketMaster® account
- Have your information at hand – we may ask for your address details for the last three years, your bank account number and sort code. We may also request bank statements for the last three months.
Your bank account must be able to accept debit and credit transactions. It can be a personal current account, but not a savings or business banking account.
The online application process takes about 15 minutes. You can save your application and return to it later if you like. To download the form you need Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you don't have it, you can download Adobe Acrobat for free from their website.
Verify your identity
We have to verify your identity. This can usually be done electronically, but if that’s impossible, you may need to send us additional documents. We’ll let you know what to send. If you don’t send what we ask for, we cannot open your account.
Fund your account
When your application is accepted, you can fund your account with a debit card. If you do that, you can start buying and selling on the same business day. You can also pay in by Direct Debit, cheque or bank transfer. Once that money is in your account, you can log in and start investing.
