Account verification

Verification of your nominated bank account details

To allow us to verify your nominated bank account, please send us:
 
  • An original or certified copy† of your bank statement from your current account dated from within the last three months which confirms your name as account holder, sort code, account number and full address. (please note that online statements are not acceptable)

OR

  • A cheque made payable to ‘Barclays Stockbrokers.’ for a minimum of £5. Please add your 13 digit account number to the back of the cheque, in format 123/45678910/11. This amount will then be deposited to your MarketMaster® for investment and is not a charge.

OR

  • An electronic BACS or Faster Payment for a minimum of £5 sent by your telephone banking, internet banking or bank branch to us directly from the bank account you nominated when opening your account. Please note that payment by CHAPS or debit card is not acceptable. This payment should be sent to sort code 208798 account number 80231207. Please ensure you put your 13 digit account number on the reference when you send it, followed by the word NEW, e.g. 123/45678910/11 NEW. This reference will allow us to identify your payment as verification of your nominated bank account. The payment amount will then be deposited to your MarketMaster® for investment and is not a charge.

OR

  • A letter dated within the last three months from your bank manager on headed paper which confirms your name as account holder, sort code and account number of your nominated account.

Your nominated bank account must be a UK personal current account in your name and accept Sterling debits and credits and electronic payments. Business or Savings accounts cannot be used. Please note we cannot accept Internet Bank statements

Please note: until we receive verification of your bank account details, you will not be able to withdraw any cash or stock from your account.

It’s important that you do this, because if we don’t receive the documents by that date, we will have to suspend or close your account. The action we will take depends on the item which has not been received, and on what assets are held in your MarketMaster® account:

If your MarketMaster® account is suspended, this means you will not be able to place any trades, or withdraw any cash and/or stock holdings until we have received the outstanding document.
 
If your MarketMaster® account is closed, and you wish to trade with Barclays Stockbrokers, you will need to open a new MarketMaster® account.
 

Certified copies

Certified copies are duplicates of documents which a person of professional standing has stated to be genuine copies of the original documents. People who can certify documents are:
 
  • Employees of Barclays, including Barclays Bank counter staff (providing name, staff number, contact details and stamp is evidenced)
  • Post Office certification service
  • A government department, member of staff or official
  • A director, manager or bank counter staff (providing name, staff number, contact details and stamp is evidenced) of a bank or an authorised credit or financial institution
  • A director, company secretary or manager of an Approved Fiduciary Services Provider
  • An Embassy, consulate or high commission officer in the country of issue
  • A qualified lawyer or attorney, registered with the relevant national professional body
  • A qualified accountant, registered with the relevant national professional body
  • A notary public, a member of the judiciary, a senior civil servant or a serving police officer.

The person certifying the copy of the document must:

  • Sign and date the copy document, and state in writing that is a true copy of the original, which they have seen 
  • Confirm their position (in line with acceptable certifiers above) and provide a contact telephone number or email address where they can be contacted. For professionals, their professional membership/registration must be able to be confirmed via a search of the appropriate professional register; 
  • Where a document has a photograph, the certifier must confirm this is a true likeness of the applicant.
